It was the dark clouds initially which caught Maithili’s
attention;
All of a sudden the atmosphere outside her balcony seemed to
match exactly to what was running through within her heart & mind; a battle
with so much at stake & yet to others, it was the silence she maintained.
It soothed to see how Nature could express anger, dissatisfaction &
sadness with all elements within her power - Clouds merging to gang up against
the bright Sun, wind blowing giving a cold shudder & goosebumps; those
betel nut & coconut tress swaying, while the old Banyan tress watching over
while Nature threw tantrums, waiting patiently for her to calm down eventually.
Mighty is she, that even human beings cannot ignore but wonder as to what must
have caused such aggression & annoyance to bring down the wrath upon. Birds
& animals call upon their young ones to huddle up & remain in their
nests & shelters with a scary look in their eyes waiting for the unforgiven
storm to gradually pass by; those human houses with roof of tin & thatch
tried to keep their heads bowed low enough so as to save their hats being
thrown off as punishment. Almost like those emotions gathering up from all
corners of Maithili’s heart to shadow over mind & her senses. It was the
least she could relate to & share her emotions & express
companionship with Mother Nature, herself.
And then.. drop by drop, so it began drizzling. Maithili
stood up slowly as if enchanted with the climate outside; with small steps
initially, paced down through the stairs passing by the dark hall & doors
which shut themselves fearing the engulfing wind. Her heart couldn’t take it
anymore & was at the verge of explosion but could she cry out-loud? Shout
out till the ears would have gone deaf, until her throat hurt & couldn’t
make anymore sound! No, that’s not who she was, nor could she express the helplessness
which had overcome & nailed her self-confidence so deeply. It was her naïve
heart after all; childlike throwing tantrums & ignoring the counsel of wise
mind & divine soul. She closed the doors behind her; with burning eyes &
boiling tears which could no longer remain within those wide leaf shaped eyes;
rolled down fiercely; merging with the thick drizzles.. which by then had taken
the form of heavy rain. Her senses had all given up & felt nothing but
numbness... With a distant & faded voice coming from inside the house - it
was her mother calling her back, but was she to listen? With face up towards
the Sky & asking Nature to see through her pain underneath that stoned silence,
it all washed away.
